ALA Garifuna Women is hosting our second annual Garifuna Heritage Month- a month-long celebration of Garifuna culture and history, featuring community workshops,  performances and celebrations in one full event in April. Garifuna Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the resilience of the Garifuna people in the greater Seattle area, as well as the integral support we continue to receive from our beloved PNW community.  

We would love to invite all community and communities to join our celebration and sponsor our event!

Your partnership as a sponsor helps us raise funds in support of our cultural, civic, and health education programs for Garifuna women. We are asking for your support as a sponsor to help us grow our programs and reach more women as we are the only organization in Washington working specifically with Garifuna women to preserve our cultural heritage and develop women leaders in our community. We are aiming to raise $8,000 this year to continue this vital work.

Most Garifuna women in our community are immigrants earning their living as domestic workers. Our goals are to educate community members on their rights as domestic workers, and to use our culture as a tool to reduce the health and economic inequities they experience. Just last year, we were able to partner with the National Domestic Worker Alliance, The Department of Health and Food Lifeline to provide 10 workers rights and social health workshops, resources and culturally relevant food to more than 40 women and their families.
